An ostrich cup

A natural marvel combined with Dutch (Calvinistic) design. Sourced from Africa and Asia, rare ostrich eggs were highly sought after by European collectors. Purported protective and curative qualities only increased their preciousness.

Ever since Classical antiquity the ostrich has been a symbol of virtue. Even though it cannot fly, it surpasses all other two legged creatures in the speed with which it can run. Virtue thus always triumphs.
